And 2013 swore not to leave us any hope when it comes to the future of Egypt and here I am not speaking about clashes or bombings but about mentality.
Do you remember how Pro-Mubarak/Pro-Military conspiracy theorist Sameh Abu Arayes accused Abla Fahita puppet of being a spy !? Well guess what , today the regional manager of Vodafone Egypt stood in front of state security prosecution in order to explain the meaning of Abla Fahita.
Vodafone and Abla Fahita were reported to the prosecutor general’s office by Pro-Military Anti-25Jan self claimed activist Ahmed Spider for sending encrypted messages from the Muslim Brotherhood leaders to the members in Egypt including dangerous messages about terrorist attacks !!! 
This is not a joke , it is a bitter reality.
First of all ,here is the ad starring the famous Abla Fahita about the new year’s offers from Vodafone. It is hilarious.

Yesterday in the New Year’s Eve we found State security journalist turned in to TV host speaking about this on his TV show along with former singer and current Freemasonry and espionage expert Ahmed Spider about this horrifying spy Abla Fahita.
It was not a parody act in the New Year’s eve , I swear it was serious to the level that Vodafone Egypt PR spoke in Moussa’s show swearing there was nothing wrong. The man could not believe what he was facing actually in front of those two strange creatures with no brain.

Many people are trying to find a logic justification for what happened. Some claim that that could be a cheap attempt from Ahmed Moussa and Tahrir channel to blackmail Vodafone in order to sponsor the channel’s shows and so on. I am afraid it is not about the revolutionary channel turned in to a Felol channel in some irony representing the situation in Egypt. Infamous "Al Faraeen TV" channel exposed the huge conspiracy behind the latest Vodafone's ad too as well !!
“El Faraeen” and its founder Tawfik Okasha are too close to the current regime especially security apparatuses to the level that they arrest people upon his request in less 48 hours for doing the Rabaa sign in photos with him !! This is more than comedy act.

The Pro-Police Facebook pages also kept publishing posts about Abla Fahita and its encoded messages.
Here is a post by the so-called Media center of MOI on Facebook in the 48 hours madly. I hate to tell them that terrorists do not wait till Vodafone produces an ad worth of thousands of pounds to know the latest instructions. There are hundreds of secured and even unsecured instant messaging apps that can do the job easily for God's sake !!

MOI's Media Department : The pages of Abla Fahita was using unknown symbols and codes whether secretly or publicly "!!" which is against the state's policy and what the law warned of. We do not know whether if these are true symbols or fake symbols in order to confuse the state's apparatus either ways it is against the law. The administrators of Abla Fahita should be questioned according to the law and we are waiting the prosecution's warrant to arrest those administrators and those who cooperated with them. FYI those administrators are well known to security.

FYI the administrators or rather the creator of Abla Fahita is well known for many people especially in advertising so it is not a big secret.
Also I want to say that terrorists have won already if the administrators are truly police officers assigned to protect us !! 
 It is worth to mention that the ministry of interior stated before those pages were not official but amazingly in times like this it does not close them or even angry that the admins are claiming to be officers.
Tawfik Okasha , Ahmed Moussa and Ahmed Spider as well Amr Mostafa and Pro-Military/Pro-Police Facebook pages do not act alone , they are more puppets than Abla Fahita and Carolina.
Their puppeteer is sending a great message to Foreign investors and multinational companies!?
In fact What kind of message you want to send to the Egyptians and to the world as well by making conspiracy theorist losers who are totally against 25 January revolution like Amr Mostafa and Ahmed Spider not to mention all the retired army generals aka Self claimed Strategic analysts speak all the time about cosmic conspiracies against Egypt and how the Muslim Brotherhood control UK and US through Muslims around the globe !?
The scary part is that I do not really think that he does understand the implications of such actions whether on short or medium or even the long term.

The Vodafone spy Abla Fahita !!

One day there is could be a real threat and people won’t believe anyone, it is a lesson we know since our childhood.
Does the current regime in Egypt or the deep state want Vodafone to leave Egypt !? I swear to God I am trying to find a serious justification but can not !! I kept thinking all day long to the level that I thought it were a devilish company by Vodafone !!!!
Is this some sort of diversion plan created to make the mainstream media busy in something trivial !? 
I just do not understand , I swear I do not know !! 
The Pro-Military/Pro-Mubarak supporters now are claiming that it was important to investigate Abla Fahita because “we do not know for real the truth” , “Everything is possible !?” and of course the favorite justification , Muslim Brotherhood member and former minister of investment Yahia Hamed was one of the top executives in Vodafone plus Vodafone is British and London now is the capital of the MB in the world !!!!!!!!!!!! Ironically I think we got at least two ministers of telecommunication who worked in Vodafone and they were all approved by GIS !!
I can not believe those guys write on their twitter account !? 
Is this how we are going to be advanced civilized country , the country that interim Presidential advisers Ahmed El Muslimany and Mostafa Higazy always speak about !?Is there a hope to end this hysteria !?

#Hala’ib triangle in Photos : The City of Hala’ib

Ok in this cold weather accompanied with a wave of depressing news from Egypt , one can find an escape as well in solace in photos from around the globe and from Egypt itself.
We are back to the Hala’ib triangle photo series. If you remember last month we stopped at the Camel market in Shalateen , well today we will head to the city of Hala’ib itself.

The city of Hala’ib is not as open as Shalateen , you have to get the permission of military intelligence to film and to photograph in the border disputed city. The city itself is extremely poor as you can see from the photos but the people do not complain from the lack of modernity or lack of infrastructure. When Resala sent a relief expedition there , they thought that they would hear tons of demands but what they heard actually was a simple demand to have a mosque !!
Only today I read the ministry of religious endowment will build new 4 mosques in the city. Of course I believe hospitals and schools as well other infrastructure. I think the government with simple few houses operated with solar energy in this environment won’t cost it huge sum considering the billions spent every year. We are speaking very small population that need true help to feel that they are truly recognized by the state.
From couple of weeks ago , I read a news that the government will start huge development and mining projects in the area. I hope that they are true and not just fake news to cheer up the public in Cairo

Open The Mosques and Churches ASAP

Egypt is facing one hell of a winter indeed , the coldest since decades thanks to Alexa storm and as a nation with no rain drainages anymore and no real social services to look after the people in these extreme weather circumstances.

News circulating that at least two homeless people were killed in the past 48 hours in Cairo and no one can stop thinking about the homeless in these times or the people in shanty times.

There have been suggestions and pleas to the government online to open the mosques and churches especially mosques that are closed after Al Isha prayer to provide a warm shelter to homeless people. Same thing to the Youth centers closed with no activities now.

I really hope the government for once thinks in a human way and opens the mosques and churches as a shelter to the homeless people especially the street children.

There have been also online campaigns and suggestions to encourage people to buy blankets from downtown Cairo in order to give them away to any homeless they meet in the street. It is great idea.

I believe these online campaigns encourage TV show to launch campaigns like Warm Cairo of Amr Adeeb’s show to donate in specific bank accounts in order to buy blankets for the poor.

As you can see it is the people who are acting now the government as usual. Of course I can not ignore the fact that our streets are drowning in rain water thanks to the fact that we do have not rain drainage anymore. My grandma used to tell me that there were rain drainages systems in major cities in Egypt till early 1960s !!

I think the government should think from now to include in its plan some drainage system in the streets. Whom I am kidding !! Of course the government does not think about this trivial matter !! May be if we had had true representative elected local councils , this matter would have been solved from long time !!

You know how it is a failed stated , by judging on  how it is dealing with circumstances like this and whether it could deal with them whether in the future or even the present.

And it snowed in Egypt for the first time since decades and here we are not speaking about hail or snow in Sinai or Saint Catherine Mount. No we are speaking about snow in Cairo outskirts.

It is freezing right now. Almost raining from time to time. Alexa is not fooling around. It is extremely cold. The storms in Alexandria led the authorities to close the ports. It is extremely cold and one can imagine how the poor in shanty towns and street children. Sports centers and mosques as well churches should be opened for those but whom shall we address !??

Kodak Agfa Presents : At Al Azhar Park

Last month I visited Al Azhar Park to attend a family birthday and of course it was an opportunity to take my camera and snap couple of shots at Cairo’s biggest park. I did not have a chance to go around and smell clean fresh air for too long but I had an opportunity some shots at night I think they are interesting.

I am very proud of this shot for Mohamed Ali Mosque at night considering I am very bad at taking night shots.

I am so proud that I posted it at Your Shot at National Geographic. Of course it is nothing compared to the stuff there but I feel that I am accomplished something and I should celebrate it.

By the way I must record my admiration for the gift the Aga Khan IV gave to the people of Cairo.

Regarding The Reuters' Poll about Arab Women : My two cents

I think it is never too late to speak about that Reuters' poll concerning women’s rights in the Arab world and its shocking result that Egypt is the worst place for any woman to live in. Even worse than Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Somalia !!
Yeah Egypt is even worse than Saudi Arabia where women can not take off their black Abayas and can move or do anything without the approval of their male guardian’s approval.
Yes Saudi Women “especially the rich” can have access to better health care and education but only with the approval male guardians. The Saudi women already need male guardian to drive them to hospitals official to get that treatment we do not have in Egypt. Ironically this poll hurts the struggle of Saudi women activists who are fighting for real to gain fundamental rights like driving their own cars for God sake !!
In Sudan women get imprisoned and flogged for wearing trousers while in Yemen girls as young as 9 years old are forced to marry. In war torn Syria , Syrian women are raped , killed , tortured and imprisoned for God sake !! I can go after each Arab country to prove my point that it is equivalent hell for ladies in neighbor countries in a way or another.
I will not speak about the progress of women has achieved in this country or the historical milestone of pioneer ladies in Egypt that fought to gain their rights starting with the education right. I will not lie and say that Egypt is the best place for women now but I will say that it is not entire hell either comparing to our dear sister Arab countries.
Of course the poll caused a lot of controversy and angry among women activists in Egypt and they have to be. Many asked about the methodology and the sample,the questions as well the timing of the poll. 
Also interestingly this poll is based upon CEDAW treaty , yes the Controversial CEDAW that many Muslim and Arabic countries got their objections and reservations about that treaty like for instance Saudi Arabia where it said clearly that it would not implement any term in the treaty that contradicted directly with the Islamic Sharia “according to the Wahabi doctrines”.
I am not fooling myself Egyptian women are facing lots of challenges but again just as it is not paradise nor hell , it is only Egypt.

This is a nightmarish version of some crazy Jumanji Ghost house designed by none other Salvador Dali !! WTH !!? Animals and one big eye seeing dinosaurs !? Who designed it for real !! What were the owner and the designer thinking.
By the way there are more expensive villas in Cairo than this villa.

#Hala’ib triangle in Photos : The village of #Abraq by Yasser EL Rasoul

And here is the second part of The Hala’ib triangle in photos series. I started it with a photo slide show from Shalateen Port. This time the slide show is from the small village of Abraq in Shalateen.

These amazing photos were taken by talented photographer Yasser El Rasoul.

Abraq is 130 kilometer away from city of Shalateen in the North West.

Its people are from the Beja people ethnic. The Beja people are from the oldest ethnic groups in North Africa , it is enough to know that they used to fight along with the ancient Egyptians. Yes sir they are so old and so unique.

Now the village of Abraq is extremely poor as you can see in the photo , its main water source is that water well bearing the village name in the slide show “it looks amazing”. It is not about living in nomadic environment , it is about zero supplies and utilities. The people of Arbaq work mainly in pasture but some of them go to the mounts searching for coal in order to trade it with food especially Wheat in Shalateen main market.

What I say in this post is based upon the testimonies of the young humanitarians that went there and saw what they were not prepared for.

Amazingly the people there are content and they do not ask for more. They also are not angry from the valley or from the State that it neglected them.

The Egyptian Food Bank and Resala helped the people of Abraq before , there are also independent youth mostly from Islamists organizing food and medical supplies caravans.

Dear Kung Fu Federation , Show some respect to your players

The drama of the Kung Fu players and their Federation regarding the Rabaa sign has not stopped and it seems that it will continue for a while.
You probably know that this drama started from two weeks ago when the Egyptian Wushu Kung Fu “EWKF” Federation  decided to suspend Egypt’s Kung Fu Champion Mohamed Youssef for wearing a Yellow Rabaa aka R4BIA Shirt and doing the Rabaa sign While receiving the gold medal in some international tournament. Youssef then said that he was only commemorating his friends and neighbors that were killed in Rabaa massacre.

Now today we found out today that another Kung Fu Silver Medalist in another tournament followed Youssef’s steps. Kung Fu champion Hashem Abdel Hamid earned the Silver medal in the Kung Fu’s world cup held in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia. Not wearing the R4BIA Yellow Shirt this time , Abdel Hamid did the 4 fingers R4BIA sign only in one of the photos. “Abdel Hamid turned to be among those who stormed the Israeli embassy from two years ago”

What would the EWKF federation do ?? Well its president justified what happened in a statement to Al Masry Al Youm as follows :

 The Kung Fu federation is a poor one , most of our players are from the middle and poor class , the thing which makes them an easy prey to the Muslim brother !!

This is the most disgusting classist statement I have read from a long time !? So now those champions that score medals and world championships are poor-middle class naïve who will fall for anyone like the Muslim brotherhood. 
It seems that the President of the Federation does not respect his players !!Even if they are poor and they are supporting the MB , there should be some respect for God sake !!
Of course this was a big slap to both the EWKF federation and the minister of sports Taher Abu Zeid.
As if it were karma , after that disgusting classist statement of EWKF Federation , minister of state for sports Taher Abu Zeid announced that he was thinking of disbanding the Federation because “It was infiltrated by Muslim brotherhood” !!!
Now there is a war of words between the EWKF federation and the minister.
Amazingly minister of sports Taher Abu Zeid once said before our historical defeat in Ghana that our victory there would be another political triumph !!!  I think this is a mix between politics and Sports and I think that the former footballer should rethink his decisions as well his statements.
Personally I believe that politics and sports do not mix but the EWKF Federation overacted. It could have penalized Youssef simply without suspending him from the game when he is actually a gold medalist. 
Many believe that if Youssef were wearing some El Sisi T-Shirt things would have different and he would not be crucified like that. Unfortunately with the on going El Sisi cult going strong in Egypt , I believe it could be the case.
By the way in all that drama going , no one is paying attention that we got world champions in Kung Fu that score medals in world championships like this and those champions are regarded as poor and naïve by their captain !! It is just a sad thing

Look to the bright side We Manage to be the first in something !!!!

The Washington Post published a report about the best and worst countries for expats from 34 countries

yesterday. The WP is based upon the Expats report of HSBC. According to this report Egypt shamelessly is the worst country to expats , oh yes thanks to our increasing lethal mix of xenophobia and populist nationalism.
From optimistic point of view , We are the first in being worst when it comes to expats in our country !! Yeah the first for being worst !!
Here is Egypt's profile in the report , it only lacks the criteria of "Rising Children abroad".
This is how I started my day.
You know one of my dreams after the 25 January revolution was to restore the cosmopolitan nature of Egypt because I believe Modern Egypt was not only built and flourished by Egyptians but also by fantastic expats who came to our country and found more than a safe asylum starting with those who built the modern Egyptian army that shocked the throne of Ottoman Empire.
I hope that those radical right wing nationalists are happy with that report. I hope that populist nationalist sensational media is happy.
 If you add this report to the WEF report , you will have a sad vision about Egypt that we do not want to see or live.

#Hala’ib Triangle in Photos : Shalateen Port by Yasser El Rasoul

As expected after raising the disputed Hala’ib triangle in the Egyptian media thanks to El Bashir’s officials statements earlier this year , it is no longer on radar and the neglected disputed rich-in much need of development is back to the abyss of oblivion. 

Well I did not forget this area and today I share with you those photos from there giving you a glimpse of the neglected triangle there. The photos are taken by photographer Yasser El Rasoul in 2012. I gathered the photos from his Facebook Page in to storify Slideshows to be published in a series through out this week here in the Egyptian Chronicles.

I will start the series with photos from Shalateen Port in the city of Shalateen.

Only last September 2013 the minister of transportation in the interim government agreed to found an international marine port in Shalateen.

Yasser El Rasoul took over 100 photos from different areas in the triangle. Of course I must hint out that he is one of the best photographers in Egypt to use HDR in nature photos. These photos should not be only published on Facebook but rather in some Egyptian National Geographic if we are speaking seriously.

They are amazing photos and honestly I will use them in order to make you back here and read more about that part of Egypt.

You can go to Shalateen easily.According to my friends who went there , there are two humble hotels there.

Insh Allah One day I visit this place with my little camera and document life there in Egyptian Chronicles. It is on my bucket list. Hopefully soon insh Allah I will make it.

The fantastic ladies of Saudi Arabia are doing it again. The Saudi women decided to take the wheel hitting the road trying to make it a reality in the kingdom : For Women to drive their cars.
Yes today the Saudi ladies are doing it organizing a campaign to drive in the streets of the kingdom posting photos and videos to encourage other ladies and to prove that they did it.

According to Saudi tweeps women drove their cars in Riyadh , Ha’il , Al Hasa , Jeddah. Some are saying that not less than 50 women drove today. I know it is a small number still big changes always have small beginning. 
Some tweeps also say that there are some ladies who drove to their work today. According to security forces more than 13 women “Ages between 22- 44 years old” were stopped by police and secret police. Their cars have been confiscated and their male custodians said to the authorities that they would not do that again !!!Five women were arresting in Riyadh and signed a pledge not to drive again. I hope that they forget that pledge soon and hit the road once again.
I respect so much how some Saudi men are supporting this right in this macho society of KSA now and I respect more how some of them are not shy of declaring this support publicly.

Above those Saudi men Alaa Wardi and Hisham Fageeh as well the rest of  Telfaz 11 team for making the headlines in social media worldwide with their own “No woman, no drive”
This is a satire song by Telfaz 11 team is the first of its kind about this important social issue. Of course I know that the whole team now is under the surveillance of the security in KSA now.

With my all due respect how come the Kingdom is trying to appear the fighter of the Arab world against radicalism when it does not allow the ladies to drive cars !? I am speaking about that huge campaign sponsored by the KSA in Arab media against radicalism. Is not banning ladies from basic right like driving their own cars radicalism !?
I can not find any logic or religious reason on why the women can not drive when from 1400 years ago in the same land women used to ride camels and horses not to mention fight besides the prophet himself in the battlefield !!
Needless to say I am reading strange comments from those opposing this basic right online that makes so angry and sick.
By the way I would like to thank the fantastic lady Manal El Sherif and other ladies who hit the road from two years ago. A journey of Thousand miles starts with hitting the car pedal for a small trip to the grocery sometimes.

Last night a wedding in a Church in the popular area of Al Warraq , Imbaba turned in to 4 funerals. Egyptians were attacked while attending a wedding ceremony at a Church in Al Warraq , Imbaba after two assailants opened their fire on the people standing outside the church late Sunday. The two assailants were on a motorcycle and fled away after opening their fire.

A Wedding that turned in to 4 funerals including the funerals of 8 years old and 12 years old girls carrying flowers , a wedding that turned in to 4 funerals including the funeral of the groom's mother. 

As it is a church in a popular area , the Virgin Church in Al Warraq is not secured and according to its bishop it has not been secured since the ousting of Morsi or after the attacks against the churches following 3 July.

Moments after the attack all the fingers were pointing to the Muslim brotherhood and co. as the attackers , they are the primary suspects that have been convicted by the crime that we have not known yet for real who did it or why.

Inside the Church from short time ago

All what we know that the Muslim brotherhood and their pro- radical Islamist allies radical rhetoric against the Christians and the Church played terrible and major role in the continuous attack against Churches. That rhetoric they refuse to give up , those actions they refuse to stop make them the primary suspect in highly polarized society.

The human rights activists are blaming the ministry of interior for its failure to protect the Christians , I can not blame them to be honest because since July 3 , 2013 and the government , the army and police have been warned over and over by human rights organizations that Christians would pay the price and were paying the price.

On the other hand since the attack all the Pro-military supporters as well the Pro-Mubarak supporters have gone in to a crusade against PM Beblawy demanding him to resign from his position along all his ministers. Ironically everybody knows that Beblawy is not real responsible for security in Egypt and that it is beyond his power. Security in Egypt is officially the responsibility of two men  : Abdel Fatah El Sisi and Mohamed Ibrahim. Be brave and speak about the responsibility of the ministry above the accountability responsible for the security of civilians aka the ministry of interior.

Anyhow unfortunately this is the first attack of its kind and sadly it will not be the last "despite I am praying that it would be" as long as there is no justice , no state of the law , no respect of human rights for all Egyptians regardless of their religion or color or race or class.

The 4 funerals will be held after two hours.

#UA07 Protest to release their detainees

Members as well supporters of Ultras Ahlaway group “UA07” are organizing a protest today in Cairo as well a rally. The UA07 boys are demanding the release of their colleagues that have been arrested from two weeks in clashes with the security forces. Among the detainees leading figures in the groups. Those who have been released from the UA07 detained boys reported that they were badly tortured by police forces during their custody.
I believe that this is the biggest Non Muslim brotherhood rally organized in Egypt against the security since the ousting of Morsi.
